Water changes the balance
Cellulose fibers take up moisture and expand. Uneven moisture through a sheet can create unequal strain, bending the paper. The direction depends on the material and its structure.
A little water. A little time. A whole new shape. Paint, dry, and discover what a single sheet remembers.
Small changes. Lasting impressions.
Cellulose fibers take up moisture and expand. Uneven moisture through a sheet can create unequal strain, bending the paper. The direction depends on the material and its structure.
Paper fibers often align during manufacturing. Expansion across the grain differs from expansion along it. Rotate the fiber control, wet the same area, and compare the resulting curve.
Wetting and drying can leave residual deformation. This model gradually stores a fraction of the front–back difference, so identical humidity settings can produce different shapes after different histories.
This is an educational and artistic approximation. A small grid stores moisture on both faces, diffuses it between neighboring cells, and approaches ambient humidity over time. Curvature uses front–back moisture difference, fiber angle, paper presets, and a slow memory term. Creative mode amplifies the deformation. Presets are illustrative, not measured material data; Science mode also is not an engineering prediction.
Cut two equal strips from the same sheet, one along the grain and one across it. Lightly dampen one side with a brush, leave both on a waterproof surface, and watch them dry. Record the direction and timing of curl. Repeat with less water; avoid heat sources and electrical devices.
Can you lift the right edge without dragging the paper? Use water, surface choice, and drying to solve a small shape puzzle.

Moisture can create unequal expansion across the sheet thickness. Fiber direction, coatings, manufacturing, and drying conditions all affect the direction and amount of curl.
No. It is a stylized, simplified model for exploration. Science mode reduces artistic exaggeration but does not replace controlled experiments or measured material properties.
The brush modifies the selected face. Reversing the moisture difference reverses the sign of the simulated curvature; individual real papers can behave differently.

Yes. Paint with one finger inside the canvas. The controls move below the work surface on small screens. Use the explicit Add water button if drawing is difficult.
